Smart City Expo World Congress Barcelona:
MANN+HUMMEL presents new solutions for the improvement of air quality in cities
- MANN+HUMMEL and Ströer develop digital screen with integrated fine dust filter
- First presentation of the prototype at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona
Ludwigsburg, 18 November 2019 – Urban residents around the world suffer from exposure to fine dust. Air pollution is particularly high in places with increased traffic volumes. In cooperation with Ströer, the leading German outdoor advertiser, MANN+HUMMEL has integrated its filtration technology for the reduction of fine dust into a digital advertising screen for the first time. The prototype, which will be presented at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona from 19 to 21 November 2019, is equipped with a digital screen and can broadcast editorial content and advertising in real time. The City´s residents as well as travelers can thus be informed and protected from increased particulate pollution at the same time. This technology can be implemented outdoors and in semi-closed areas, such as (underground) stations and bus stops.
Proven protection against fine dust
According to WHO estimates, more than 40,000 people in Germany alone die each year from particulate matter. The prototype is equipped with filtration technology from MANN+HUMMEL that has been proven to adsorb over 80 percent of the fine dust from the air and thus contributes to protecting people from air pollution. The system features an energy-optimized and powerful fan, a multi-stage filter element and a control unit. The operation of the fine dust particle filter can be controlled as required.
„Our Filter Cubes are already helping to improve air quality on several streets in Germany with particularly high fine dust pollution," says Jan-Eric Raschke, Chief Product Owner of MANN+HUMMEL. „With the prototype developed in cooperation with Ströer, we now have the opportunity to provide cleaner air in train and underground stations, bus stops and shopping miles as well".
„As a long-term partner of cities and municipalities, we contribute to the urban communication infrastructure with our digital advertising media. This digital infrastructure of a city can help to find solutions for mobility, administration and public safety and at the same time reduce the impact of environmental pollution", says Alexander Stotz, CEO Ströer Media Deutschland GmbH.
